Boston Is An Animal You Don't Want To Mess With

I'm so proud to call Boston my home. Massachusetts may be a little rough around the edges, but we take care of each other. There is humanity here--And it's reflecting in our news.

Obama called Boston, "resilient."

Note how the Latin translation means, "leaping back." Not simply "gets back up" or "durable" but coming back with force; with energy; with gusto. A majority of the coverage on the explosion has turned to recovery, both physical and otherwise. I believe that's because we really don't have the evidence that we wished we had. But regardless of what information we have on any attacker, we use the news and the internet to connect, pull together, offer one another homes and rides, food and facilities. Local restaurants opened their doors to the displaced, fatigued and distraught. We do not let our people, any people, fall very far before we try catch them.

As a Northeastern city of harsh conditions and hard accents, Boston gets a rep for being a "cold people." The truth is, we're mush. But don't underestimate the power of mush. It's flexible, pliable and irrepressible. It doesn't just mend itself; it has the power to come back exponentially. We not only jumped on the medical and legal implications of the situation but we evacuated the area, had a game plan for transportation, have flooded the hospitals trying to give blood, started internet outreach for families trying to connect and misplaced visitors. We know what to do, how to be, and we just do it. We work as a team, we know our strengths and our weakness. And we don't take a small offense lightly. We are merely wiser.
